General Operating

The Center is a welcoming and safe space providing the community with resources, support, connections, and programming. Unrestricted funds help us to cover the costs associated with the day to day operations of The Center. These costs will increase significantly when we’re in a new and larger space. — We often rely on grants and restricted gifts to support program and staffing costs but we aim to reduce our dependence on these sources to retain those positions and programs. Gifts to the annual fund help us build the capacity to do so.

For years it has been our dream to own our home. In 2014, an anonymous angel donor made that dream come true with a $1.8 million gift. $1 million was used to purchase the property where we would build our new home.  To date, this donor has given $4.9 million so the LGBTQ+ community could come together in a new, visible, and modern facility. We have officially broken ground and construction has begun. Several naming opportunities remain available in the new facility. Please contact Shae London at slondon@lgbtcleveland.org for more information.

Our plans for the new facility include opportunities to feature the work of local and national LGBTQ artists. In 2016, community-leader and art collector Dave Ream joined our team and formed the Art 4 The Center Committee. The committee has put together a plan for several art installations to be designed specifically with the mission and function of our new facility in mind. We are seeking $90,000 to advance the art program. Since the recent passing of Dave Ream, we have established the Dave Ream Memorial Art Fund to support his vision of a Center that supplies a safe and beautiful place for our community to gather.

Hero-1

The Center is overjoyed to announce that we have met the $500,000 matching challenge grant from The Milton and Tamar Maltz Family Foundation. This means that we will open the doors of our new home with a $1 million endowment, being held by the Cleveland Foundation. The Cleveland Foundation is a pillar of the philanthropic community of Cleveland, and has a strong reputation for responsible fund management and sustainable growth. It is paramount that we continue to grow the endowment in order to guarantee the sustainability of The Center and its new home for years to come.
