Rainbow Pioneers is a social support group that serves LGBTQ+ individuals ages 50+. Rainbow Pioneers programming provides participants with a safe, affirming space and allows members to engage in a variety of activities ranging from Art Therapy to Joint Mobility Exercises.
Same Group New Name
Rainbow Pioneers, the group formerly known as SAGE Cleveland, is embarking upon a new exciting direction. Since 2014, SAGE Cleveland has been a core program at The LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland and dedicated affiliate of the national SAGE USA program, which affords LGBTQ+ individuals over the age of 50 access to resources, research, and above all, community.
In December 2021, SAGE USA’s Board of Directors approved a new strategic plan that includes a restructuring of current affiliate relationships from a centralized model to a collaborative model. This new model seeks to meet the unique needs of current affiliates and to continue to grow impact.
Thus, as of September 2022, the group formerly known as SAGE Cleveland ceased usage of all SAGE branding. In its place, the new program name, Rainbow Pioneers, was selected to represent this core program for LGBTQ+ individuals aged 50 and above. The name was voted upon after a series of constructive discussions with current program members and Center staff.
