Position:

The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for actively and energetically maintaining the Center’s presence within the LGBTQ+ community of greater Cleveland and in the community-at-large. The Community Engagement Coordinator achieves this by running a vibrant, healthy, and self-sustaining volunteer program that engages individual members of the community by utilizing their strengths and providing opportunities for growth and learning. The Community Engagement Coordinator oversees volunteer placements for all Center needs, including but not limited to the front desk, programs support, community engagement and tabling, special events throughout the year, and Pride in the CLE. The Community Engagement Coordinator communicates needs to volunteers, tracks volunteer hours, and reports volunteer data. The Community Engagement Coordinator serves as the Center liaison to Community Group facilitators by maintaining open communication and leading facilitator trainings for new Community Group facilitators. The Community Engagement Coordinator serves as a point of contact for Cleveland area organizations that seek to provide resources to the Center’s guests and then works collaboratively with Center staff and volunteers to provide resources to the community.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintain friendly and inviting atmosphere for all guests entering the Center
  • Ensure coverage of essential Center needs (front desk, Center programs, special events, outreach support, etc.)
  • Develop and implement recruitment and retention processes for the Center’s volunteer program
  • Ensure training and onboarding of volunteers who will be ready to engage in the dynamic work of the Center
  • Actively maintain the Center’s volunteer program by keeping records of volunteers and their hours
  • Serve as the communication hub for all volunteer activities and oversee lead volunteers as the Center staff point person
  • Compile volunteer data and report the information in an interesting and digestible way to share with the community and donors
  • Implement a tiered system of volunteers so that the program will sustain itself with oversight from the Community Engagement Coordinator
  • Coordinate volunteer recognition by spotlighting individuals, creating social events, and celebrating the year’s-worth of volunteer work at an annual gathering
  • Ensure representation and coverage of community events and programs by volunteers and staff
  • Connect with local community organizations and stakeholders to create partnerships that support the community by sharing information and resources
  • Maintain and develop relationships with community partners in efforts to expand Center reach and engagement activities
  • Serve as point of contact for Community Group facilitators
  • Work with the Program Director to approve applications for new Community Groups and run facilitator trainings
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications

Required

  • At least two years of experience in successful community outreach/recruitment and volunteer coordination
  • Excellent public speaking and communication skills
  • Ability to connect with others and forge strong relationships
  • Highly organized, analytical, computer skills– proficient in Microsoft Office programs and volunteer tracking databases
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently with time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to organize and maintain detailed records; complete necessary paperwork in timely manner
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to work under stress of meeting deadlines and changing priorities
  • Able to operate normal business machines and technology, such as computer and computer systems, office copiers, fax, remote access, phones
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing

Preferred

  • Ability to support, network and motivate volunteers and interns
  • This position requires some flexibility in scheduling and may include daytime and evening hours.
