The Volunteer Experience We are no longer taking volunteer application at this time, to address the needs of our core volunteers - please check back later.
The LGBT COMMUNITY CENTER OF GREATER CLEVELAND would not exist without the tireless efforts of its Volunteers. Those who donate their time, talent and wealth of experience understand the meaning of giving back to the community. We provide our communities with unique opportunities in a safe and supportive environment to make a difference in the lives of those who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and those still questioning their sexuality.
Core Training
All volunteers must complete Core Training. Applicants 18 years old or under require signed parent/guardian consent. Scheduled several times during the year, Core Training covers: Diversity 101 (the language and unique challenges of our diverse LGBT communities), HIV 101 (basic terminology and an overview of HIV/AIDS & STI, testing, safer sex), VicNet 101 (basic info on our online volunteer management system) and Center 101 (establishing and maintaining healthy boundaries, facility tour, Who’s Who at the Center, safety & security).
Tiered Training
Specific duties of most Volunteer Opportunities are learned on the job from a Volunteer Manager or a Staff Coordinator, but some positions have specialized requirements. Both Senior Program Assistants and Youth Program Adult Mentors require background checks. Youth Program Adult Mentors, Front Desk/Reception and Senior Program Assistants require additional Tiered Training conducted by respective Staff Coordinators or Volunteer Managers.
