In a historic ruling that will have a profound impact on the rights of gay and lesbian couples for generations, the Supreme Court of the United States has declared that Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional in a 5-4 ruling. Gay and lesbian Americans will now be able to file petitions for their same-sex spouses and fiancé(e)s.
